As soon as I arrive, Margaret takes me over to a display cabinet in the office. The early generations of Robinsons were very matter of fact and took their business extremely seriously - to the extent that events that weren't connected to the equipping of greenhouses or the growing of onions, leeks or strawberries barely registered. I know I ought to resist the urge but there's something about oversized vegetables that brings out the saucy postcard in me. Instead I ask them the secret of growing a huge onion. And you must put them outside when they're at the right stage of maturity or you'll never get big onions.
